MicroSong

MicroSong is a True Type font that can be used for describing melodies in a very, very compressed manner. It was designed by Sven Gothefors for use in an appendix to a songbook he was editing. It is free to copy and use.

Currently, only Windows is supported.
First, download the font microsong.ttf to a temporary place, like the desktop. The size is about 15KB, i.e. not very large.
Then copy the font, e.g. using drag and drop, to the proper font directory.
The WindowsNT directory is usually c:/Winnt/Fonts.
The Windows98 directory is usually c:/Windows/Fonts.

Writing the notes is fairly straightforward.
The letter h is the prime note as well as the middle note (C in C major or C minor, depending on the scale).
Going left on the keyboard means going up in the scale. After a comes p. Going right on the keyboard means going down in the scale. After l comes z. Uppercase letters are long notes, lowercase are short.
